Independence Day Celebration
Independence Day, celebrated annually on 15 August, commemorates India’s liberation from over 200 years of British colonialism in 1947. It marks the historic moment when legislative sovereignty was transferred to the Indian Constituent Assembly, a "tryst with destiny" achieved through the sacrifices of numerous freedom fighters. At the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), this national holiday is observed with solemnity and patriotic pride, reflecting the centre's mission of achieving technological self-reliance for the nation.
I. Ceremonial Honours and Leadership
Following the national tradition where the Prime Minister hoists the tricolour at the Red Fort, IPRC conducts its own formal flag-hoisting ceremony at the Mahendragiri campus.
• Flag Distribution: During major milestones like the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (celebrating 75 years of independence), the National Flags are distributed to all employees, contract staff, and residents of ISRO Housing colonies in Mahendragiri, Nagercoil, and Valliyoor.
• National Allegiance: Employees are encouraged to hoist the flag at their residences, fostering a deep sense of national belonging across the technical and residential communities.
II. Patriotic Rallies and Public Awareness
IPRC organises large-scale mobilisations to invigorate the spirit of independence among its workforce and their families.
• Awareness Rallies: The Director leads major awareness rallies featuring senior executives, employees, and the CISF Contingent.
• Tiranga Rally: : A signature event is the Tiranga Rally, which showcases the unity of the complex’s multidisciplinary team.
